Dale Murphy’s Cooperstown Candidacy

Dale Murphy’s Cooperstown Candidacy

Two-time MVP, Atlanta Braves icon and Big League Utah Coalition member Dale Murphy has a fresh wave of momentum behind his Baseball Hall of Fame candidacy. His supporters have launched the “Dale Murphy to the Hall” campaign, spotlighting his peak dominance, character, and enduring impact on the game. The effort is mobilizing fans online and off — just before the Hall of Fame Eras Committee begins deliberations in December.

Why Dale Murphy Deserves a Place in Cooperstown

  • Youngest player in history to win back-to-back National League MVPs in 1982 and 1983, a feat achieved by only a small group of players.

  • Seven All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves and four Silver Sluggers reflect a two-way player who defined the 1980s and the Atlanta Braves “Generation Murph.”

  • Career production, a .265 average, 398 home runs, 1,266 RBIs, which compares favorably with numerous Hall of Famers, even as injuries shortened his late career.

  • Featured three times on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

  • Broad respect inside the game, captured by the campaign’s central premise: he “embodies the spirit” Cooperstown honors.

A revered ambassador of the sport, Dale earned the Roberto Clemente award, the Bart Giamatti award and the Lou Gehrig Memorial award for his integrity, character and community impact. His involvement with the Big League Utah Coalition is evidence of his love for the sport and his desire to see its’ influence expand both on and off the field.

Big League Utah and a Community that Loves Baseball

Dale is a proud member of the Big League Utah coalition and our collective effort to bring Major League Baseball to Utah.  He’s been open about what he sees in Utah; “Salt Lake City has it all: a young and growing population, a prime ballpark location, a booming economy and a dedicated community of supporters.” His efforts underscore Utah’s “shovel-ready” posture, strong ownership and community backing, which align with Dale’s long-standing commitment to the game and to Utah’s baseball future.

The Official “Dale Murphy to the Hall” Campaign

The “Dale to the Hall” campaign launched in October, just ahead of the December Eras Committee meetings. A centerpiece of the effort is a short film written by Wright Thompson and narrated by Jason Aldean, underscoring Dale’s career and character. You can watch the video at the official campaign website —  www.murphytothehall.com. The site consolidates Dale’s case for Cooperstown with awards, statistics, historic context and testimonials from other baseball legends.

Let’s all cheer for Dale, cementing his official place in baseball history.
